(Front passenger tire blew out and rim bent.)
Some have asked about my car accident I had this past Tuesday morning and what damage was done to the Infinity etc. That morning was so terribly rainy and there were flash flood alerts out. The car was driving fine down Blankenbaker. I veered right and got onto the entrance ramp for 64W as that is the way I often take to go to the girls school. I was trying to make Maddie's 10am Awards Ceremony. The on ramp at that location is not straight but rather does a rather tight loop onto the interstate. I was nearing the bottom of the loop and almost to the interstate when the back of the Infinity started fishtailing badly. My Dad had always drilled in my head that when hydroplaning or whatnot to let off the break. It all happened fast but letting off the break and pumping the break did absolutely nothing. I had no control and the car was spinning faster. I closed my eyes (I was just so scared) and held onto the steering wheel trying to at least keep the vehicle from flipping. I remember the feeling of the front end hitting something and then spinning and feeling like the car was about to flip. That feeling of possibly flipping was the scariest. Along with the fact that my eyes were still closed =/ and so I had no idea if I was about to hit a car or a car about to hit me... Anyway after spinning and hitting the guardrail a few times the car finally came to a stop. I sat there in the car and opened my eyes in disbelief of what had just happened. It had happened so fast. I was shaking and crying. I noticed that another vehicle had pulled over to the side of the road up a ways. A man got out and was standing there waiting for me to get out. He could tell I was OK. I was thinking I needed to call someone but my brain wouldn't think and I didn't know who to call. I suddenly got this gripping fear of being in that car and what if someone else came down the ramp and lost control as I had and hit me. My drivers side door would have been the target. I immediately jumped out and ran towards the man and got on the other side of the guard rail. The man asked me if I was OK and I said yes. He also asked if I had called anyone. I told him no that I couldn't think of who to call. Suddenly I realized I *needed* to call Danny. He was in a Phd class but I needed him by my side. I called but his voice mail came on. I texted and wrote something short about being in a wreck call now. He immediately called and said he would be right there. Before he hung up I said wait a minute you don't even know where I am. He said Oh, yeah, where are you? =) I then made phone calls to insurance and the towing company as I couldn't drive the car. A policeman showed up and did a police report etc. I called Mrs. Shelly to tell her why I wasn't at the awards ceremony. Danny had already called her but she let me know that Maddie had won the Philippians Award for Cheerfulness (they all get a character award). That made me smile and sad that I hadn't been there to see her get it. I have never missed anything like that at their school. Mrs. Shelly said Maddie asked when it was over where her Mommy was at. She knew I was supposed to be there. (I did make it later to see Libby get her award which was also the Philippians Award for Cheerfulness!=)) The man who stopped and waited there in the stormy weather with me was still there. I told him to please go if he needed to as the policeman had arrived. He shook his head that yes he probably should but that he felt bad for leaving. He said he had a job interview he was trying to get to. I told him that I hoped I hadn't made him late but he said it was OK. I told him I was so sorry but thanked him and asked him his name. He said it was Jeff and then he left. I have been so in awe with Jeff that he would stop to help a complete stranger, in the rain, on a day when he had a job interview! I pray that if the job he was interviewing for was a good match for him that those in charge of the interview would have understanding with him being late as he was so kind to stop. My sweet husband showed up very quickly and about gave me a heart attack by standing so close to the traffic to get these pictures with his phone. The damage could have been much worse but the body shop has said that it is extensive. We should know sometime tomorrow what all the body shop has to say. They have been backed up with hail damaged cars from the hail storm a few weeks ago.Another area that hit the guardrail and was damaged. That part looks a little worse in person than in this picture.
Back bumper smashed up into the back door. The tire you see laying there is the extra tire that was stored under the car. It fell off.

I don't blame you for closing your eyes! I would have too! So thankful that the Lord protected you during this. The weather was TERRIBLE that morning!
Hi Angie,
I know I'm awfully late reading this, but I just popped into your blog to check out what might be new with you guys. My Goodness! I've never experienced hydroplaning, sounds like it's not unsimilar from sliding and spinning out of control on ice (that, I have unfortunately experienced). I'm glad you were not hurt. And hopefully your car is repaired by now.
Enjoyed catching up with how your girls have grown, too, via the great pictures you post here. They look beautiful and happy.
Hope you all are enjoying your summer!
