Nathan McLean

UPDATE:

"** I'm sorry I forgot this: We have another little friend up at Kosair, Ethan Tate, only two months older than Nathan, who is currently also going through a stem cell transplant, several doors down from us in OSCU. Today was transplant day for him - he was reinjected with his stem cells. Let's remember him and his mom in our prayers. **

Praise the Lord, we have an answer. The lab in California has confirmed the diagnosis of toxoplasmosis. Dr. Bryant, our infectious disease doctor here at Kosiar, is optimistic that Nathan will recover, and with most or all of his lost/impaired faculties. As most of you know, Nathan is very sick, but Praise the Lord the culprit is a parasite and not cancer. We thank you very much for all your prayers. Some praises and thanks:

  1. Monica Hente, Nathan’s bone marrow transplant nurse practitioner for the lab order for the toxo antibody test early last week.
  2. Dr. Bryant for spotting it, the toxo IgG levels (showing only a past infection), and knowing enough to immediately put him on the three very specific toxo medicines right away last Thurs night. She has worked very diligently and not unemotionally on Nathan’s behalf all week (including late in the evening and throughout last weekend).
  3. Nurse Angie, Tiffany, Elaine, Dr. Mike, Dr.'s Cheerva, Bertolone, Raj for caring about and working hard for Nathan this week, and Amanda and I.
  4. All your many prayers, and for God’s mercy and love for us.

Now we humbly ask for a few more prayer requests:

  1. Nathan’s digestive system is very “compromised” right now for several reasons. But these three toxo medicines must be taken orally, and one is very hard on his stomach. Please pray the medicines can be kept down (or in) and sufficiently absorbed by his blood stream.
  2. That the infection can be resolved before any of Nathan’s vitals are compromised, or before any more of his faculties are affected.
  3. That he recover quickly, come home, and get back on the road with radiation and his continuing neuroblastoma treatment.

"For not from the east or from the west and not from the wilderness comes lifting up, but it is God who executes judgment, putting down one and lifting up another." Reach the Day indeed."

"Tues 9 am- long night, not doing great, we think both head and tummy hurting, but not sure. No word on test results."
