Thankfulness/Blessings Journal

While researching something online today I was reminded of a concept that I used in college. The idea was called the Blessing Bag. Everyday you wrote at least one blessing from the day and placed it in a special bag. Then after a period of time, maybe even Thanksgiving day you read every piece of paper and remember how blessed you really are. In our busy hectic lives it is so easy to forget all the little wonderful things that happen and focus on the few inconveniences, frustrations, heartaches that happen to us all. I like the idea of a blessing joural because you would be able to look back on it in years to come without worrying about little pieces of paper in a bag. A woman at our church said that she and her husband started a blessings journal when they got married. She said that she is sometimes more consistant than at other times of keeping up with it. Wouldn't have to be an everyday thing unless you are going through a very difficult time and need constant reminders to focus on the little everyday blessings. This woman said that when they were going through a hard time a while back that she pulled out her journal and began to weep. She felt so ashamed of herself for worrying and not trusting the Lord. She was reminded of all the times that the Lord had brought them through troubles and tribulations stronger in the end. She was reminded of His faithfulness and her worry faded. Makes me want to run out to the store and buy a brand new journal... (I think I will start something along these lines for the girls too!)
